Congratulations to Teddy Cruz-2010 USA Ford Fellow!
Each year, United States Artists honors 50 of America’s finest artists with individual fellowships of $50,000 – unrestricted funds awarded across eight disciplines.
Architect Teddy Cruz’s work dwells at the bi-cultural border between San Diego, CA, and Tijuana, Mexico, and is influenced by the informal structures that emerge from the community’s need for housing. Teddy studied at California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Cruz established estudio teddy cruz in 2000 in La Jolla. He is a professor of public culture and urbanism in the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego.
MACLA has had the privileged to work with Teddy on several projects: We commission new work from Teddy that premiered in the Lineas exhibition this past fall for the 2010 ZER01 Biennial. Earlier this spring, he was the featured speaker at our luncheon. MACLA will keep you posted on the future projects from estudio teddy cruz.
