<div>Support the Remounting of</div>
<div>Elia Arce&#8217;s First Woman on The Moon</div>
<div></div>
<div>MACLA in partnership with the National Performance Network (NPN) is commissioning the remounting and touring of Elia Arce&#8217;s First Woman on The Moon. We need your partnership to make this a reality. Our goal is to raise $2k from individuals such as yourself.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In this performance, Elia Arce leads the audience through a series of places both physical and emotional, from the dark, lush jungles of her Costa Rican roots to the barren, lunar landscape of her adopted desert home, using body, language, sound and visual images. First Woman on the Moon is historically important as one of the earliest performance pieces to give a different voice to Latino identity, focusing on issues of class and spirituality rather than race and ethnicity.</div>
<div>MACLA, along with DiverseWorks (Houston), Links Hall (Chicago) and NPN aim to preserve, reinvigorate and bring contemporary interpretation to Elia&#8217;s work while introducing it to a new generation of audiences. Premiering at NPN&#8217;s 2010 Annual Meeting in Dallas, December 7-13, 2010, First Woman on the Moon, will visit each partner venue and tour for the following 18 months.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In October 2011, Elia Arce will be in residence at MACLA.</div>
<div>Participate and support First Woman on the Moon.</div>
<div>Help MACLA by supporting Elia Arce through Kickstarter!</div>
<div>Click here to pledge your support and get involved!</div>
<div>________________________________________________</div>
<div>In correlation with the 01SJ Biennial, MACLA has commissioned new work by Tanya Aguiñiga and Teddy Cruz that explores a triangulation of global borders, local resources and sustainability.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Originally from Guatemala, Teddy Cruz&#8217;s work focuses on the border between San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico where he has designed new mixed-use developments that reuse and adapt existing structures and recycled materials.</div>
<div></div>
<div>MACLA has commissioned Teddy Cruz to present, Mapping Non-Conformity: From the Global Border to the Border Neighborhood, a digital narrative animation focused on specific housing projects on both sides of the border.  In San Diego, in collaboration with Casa Familiar Teddy has been working on a multi-use housing development which incorporates the traditional structures of family and home, while embracing the tools offered through modern architectural design.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Tanya Aguiñiga is a Los Angeles based furniture designer/maker raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Tanya will be collaborating with craftspeople in Chiapas, Mexico on creating new functional art pieces which will help sustain traditions and provide economic support to local families and communities. Lineas will highlight the process and stories that come from the experience along with the completed work.</div>
